Getting the best results from WhisperTyping is easy with a few simple practices. These tips will help you achieve higher accuracy and a smoother dictation experience.

Microphone & Environment

Use a Good Microphone

A quality microphone makes a significant difference in transcription accuracy. Consider using a headset with a built-in microphone, a dedicated USB microphone, or even quality earbuds with a mic. Position the microphone 2-6 inches from your mouth for optimal results.

Reduce Background Noise

Find a quiet environment for dictation. Close windows, turn off fans, and minimize background conversations. If you're in a noisy environment, a noise-cancelling microphone can help significantly.

Check Your Microphone Level

Use Settings → Microphone to monitor your input level in real-time. Aim for the level to reach about 70-80% when speaking at your normal volume. Too quiet or too loud can both affect accuracy.

Speaking Technique

Speak Naturally

Speak at your natural pace - don't slow down artificially or over-enunciate. The AI is trained on natural speech patterns. Think about what you want to say before you start speaking.

Pause Before Speaking

Wait about half a second after pressing your hotkey before you start speaking. This ensures the microphone is fully activated and ready to capture your voice from the beginning.

Speak in Complete Thoughts

Try to dictate complete sentences or phrases rather than single words. The AI uses context to improve accuracy, so longer segments often produce better results than very short ones.

WhisperTyping Features

Use the Vocabulary Feature

Add custom words, names, technical terms, and context to your vocabulary in Settings → Vocabulary. This dramatically improves recognition of specialized terminology that the AI might not know.

Set Up Text Replacements

Create automatic text replacements in Settings → Replacements for common phrases, corrections, or formatting. For example, replace "my email" with your actual email address, or fix recurring transcription errors.

Set Your Language

Make sure the correct language is selected in Settings → Vocabulary. If you speak multiple languages, switch between them as needed for best results.

Use AI Modes for Complex Tasks

For writing emails, rewriting text, or answering questions, use AI Modes. Say "Write an email about..." or "Rewrite this more formally" to let AI enhance your dictation.
